Fruit Patch employs short, straight pack lines to avoid turns and minimize drops. This in turn minimizes scuffing and bruising. Four identical lines enable Fruit Patch to pack white peaches, yellow peaches, nectarines, and plums simultaneously to get your truck out on time with your desired mix. We are installing a totally new and state of the art washing and waxing system to ensure the best possible shelf life of our fruit.
Food Safety
In food safety, Fruit Patch is setting the standards for shippers in the San Joaquin Valley. Fruit Patch has contracted with Primus Labs and the United States Department of Agriculture for third party audits of its Food Safety Program. Fruit Patch has received excellent ratings in all areas of audit, from field to cold storage practices, earning a 99% overall rating from Primus. Fruit Patch is GlobalG.A.P certified and has received the highest rating from the USDA for good agricultural, handling and trace back practices. Our in-house lab facilities will enable real-time determination of the presence of possible microbial populations, both on working surfaces and on the fruit itself.
Fruit Patch Gets Fruit Cold Fast
Fruit is forced air-cooled to 32°F. During forced air-cooling, a giant fan pulls in cold air through the cooling vents on the boxes. This is critical for halting the ripening process and helping to suppress pathogens. Once the fruit has been properly cooled it is placed in the cold storage where sensors in every cold room monitor the temperature of the fruit to ensure that Fruit Patch will Deliver The Taste! TM. Fruit selected for the preconditioning process is cooled only into the fifties to facilitate the necessary ripening after packing at 68 degrees.
